Orthodontics

Orthodontics is the specialty that corrects the bad positioning of our teeth, in order to establish a correct function and also provide good aesthetic.

1. The importance of dental hygiene

The mouth is an organ whose masticatory function is the first step in our digestive tract.
Like any machine, it needs to have all its elements well balanced in a way to perform an effectively without excessive wear.

Aligned teeth can be cleaned more effectively and prevent problems to the tissues that sustain them.

Inclined, crowded, or badly positioned teeth generate a masticatory and oral hygiene problems, not to mention an unpleasant aesthetics.

2. Orthodontics objective

Orthodontics aims to align the teeth correctly, and obtain a good relationship between both dental arches.

It is a preventive treatment, which establishes normality so that in the future, any problem that may arise can be solved by starting from a normal structure.

3. Orthodontic techniques

Invisalign

It is the ideal treatment if you want to benefit from orthodontics, with maximum convenience and without braces.

The "Invisalign" is a cutting edge system that uses a series of clear, invisible aligners, tailor made and unique for each person. They are removable, which facilitates cleaning our teeth and the convenience at mealtimes

Advantages:

  • Aesthetics – The aligners are completely invisible.
  • Convenience – Easy to put on and remove.
  • Allows a correct hygiene
  • Less review and follow-up visits (every 2 months)

Self-ligating braces

These braces are the last generation, which provides a faster treatment and given its smaller required force, cause only a minor inconvenience.

Aesthetic braces

For those who do not want traditional metal braces, you can choose aesthetic braces made out of porcelain. These braces have a beautiful, translucent white colour, which mimics very well our natural teeth and is barely noticeable.

An important fact to take into account is that the wires have a metallic colour. Those wires covered by a thin layer of white material (téflon) do not allow for an efficient tooth movement, thus compromising treatment results and considerably extending its conclusion.

4. Recommendations during the treatment

During treatment there are certain precautions that we must take:

  • Do not eat very hard or sticky foods that might harm or dislocate the braces
  • Do not bite food too hard with our anterior teeth, the incisors
  • Maintain a perfect hygiene during treatment
  • Good pace of collaboration and motivation

5. End of treatment

Upon conclusion of the active stage of treatment, begins a new passive retention period, whose objective is to consolidate the teeth in their new position. This period is as important as the first one.

It is also during this period where we give the final aesthetic and functional touch ups, such as dental restorations, bleaching, stain removal, gum contouring, veneers, implants or prosthesis.
